Beginning September 1st, the market will have a new manager — Leah Smith! Leah moved to North Carolina 13 years ago and currently lives in the area with her husband and two children.
Leah has generational connections to farmland and has been involved in gardening and landscaping much of her life. She grew up in Pittsburgh, PA where her great grandparents owned farmland and grew a variety of fruits and vegetables. She has fond memories of reading her great grandmother’s handwritten recipe book that covered all the ways to cook, can, and freeze their produce. Growing up, Leah was lucky to learn and apply these techniques first-hand when caring for her parents’ vegetable gardens. Her professional background consists of sales, marketing, and event management within the retail, housing, and biotech industries. What really inspired her to care so much about food and farming was watching the documentary, Food Inc in 2010. The film was eye-opening, and from that point forward, she made it her mission to demand and cook wholesome food choices for herself and her family. She achieves her mission by supporting locally grown food and constantly strives to learn, educate, and teach awareness of food quality.
Leah has a passion for local healthy foods, nutritious cooking, and supporting local businesses within her community. She believes when food is grown, purchased, and consumed locally, it not only fosters a healthy lifestyle but promotes a social gathering space of community interaction and involvement. Leah is eager to make a valuable impact in the success and growth of the market and is excited to help make a positive difference for the community of Cary.
