The Cary Downtown Farmers Market is committed to staying open as long as we are allowed. It is normal to feel anxious in these uncertain times, so we’ve implemented extra measures to ensure the safety of our staff, vendors, and customers while shopping for your weekly food. While we normally encourage you to stay a while, you can try out safe social distancing practices by waving to your neighbors, supporting your favorite vendors using credit cards when you can, taking advantage of complementary hand sanitizing stations, and sharing smiles, not germs. We’ll be providing hand sanitizer and hand wipes for use by patrons and vendors to ensure a germ-free experience at the market. We also ask that if you are feeling ill, please stay home. We so appreciate your business, but we understand that by taking care of yourself you’re taking care of us too.
As we implement these measures for your safety, we want to encourage you to continue connecting with us (even if we can’t stand close to one another). See these four reasons we are opting for local right now –
1. Less people are handling your goods
Our vendors are 100% local – all of our vendors grow their product within a 100 mile radius of Cary, meaning your produce changes hands less often than regular grocery store produce and meat products.
2. We’re an open air market!
The market is open air and has plenty of space so you don’t need to stand close to your neighbor to get your fresh produce and meat. Vitamin D has been shown to help the body fight colds and flu, time outdoors can help boost the immune system.
3. You are supporting small businesses
Times like these are especially difficult for small business owners, like our vendors. While large companies may have an emergency reserve that isn’t always the reality for our vendors, who work tirelessly to deliver fresh, local goods to you every Saturday.
4. Walking around alleviates stress
Fresh air is good for your health and morale. Even though we can’t stay and chat right now, it’s still encouraging to see a familiar face (from a distance). Walking around outside, even just the length of the market, can kickstart endorphins and alleviate some of the coronavirus anxiety many of us are feeling.
We know this is a tough time and want you to take the best care of you. We’ll be continually updating our vendors and patrons as the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve. Just know that your Cary Downtown Farmers Market family is here for you and can’t wait to connect again soon. Stay safe. Stay healthy.
